You may find organic gardening to either be a source of great relaxation, or a frustratingly difficult enterprise. Continue on for some good tips that will help you succeed in organic gardening.

Involve the whole family in your gardening hobby; children find growing things to be very interesting. A garden can provide a wonderful learning experience for children, and will give you an opportunity to bond with them while you produce healthy food.

Include your kids in growing an organic garden. Helping a garden grow is an excellent learning experience for kids, and it allows your family to spend time together while creating healthy, nutritious foods.

Keep your gardening tools close by to maximize gardening efficiency. You can wear an apron or pants that have a lot of pockets, or use a big bucket or can. You will be much more productive if you can quickly get to your spade, pruning shears, trowel and watering can.

Young children will love it if you plant strawberries that bear continually, and organic gardens are the perfect place to do it. A lot of children not only love to pick out their own fruit but they also love to learn about it as well.

When your seeds sprout, they will not be in need of the warmth they needed to germinate. As they begin growing you can move them farther away from heat sources. Take any plastic film off of your containers because they hold in heat and humidity. Watch the seeds so you can know when you do this.

Add aspirin to your plants to help them fight sickness. One and a half aspirin, dissolved in two gallons of water, can be a great addition to your plants. All you have to do is spray the plants with this solution and you should see good results. Use this solution once in every three-week period.

In your flower beds and garden, utilize a few inches of organic mulch. This will prevent weeds from growing, retain humidity, and feed your plants with the nutrients they need. What’s more, your garden will look professional all year.

Grow Plants

Work properly in your garden. Keep all of your tools together; do not waste time looking for them! Set up the tools you will need for your day prior to hitting the garden, then put them away neatly at the end of your gardening session. It may be necessary to don a tool belt or cargo pants with extra pockets.

When growing organic plants indoors, it is important to consider the amount of light that is available to them. If your residential space has limited sunlight, it will be best that you grow plants that are ideal for this type of environment. If you want to grow plants that need a lot of light, consider using artificial lighting.

Put used coffee grounds on the soil. Coffee grounds have a lot of nutrients that plants can use. Generally, nitrogen is the limiting nutrient with any plant and having a good nitrogen source either by coffee grounds, compost, or even diluted urea, will make your plants bloom faster and grow taller.

Keep your tools handy to work more efficiently. For example, you could use an over-sized tote bag or an apron with multiple pockets. Keep your trowel, pruning shears and gloves handy so you can do your garden work quickly and easily.

When the time has come to gather up the produce, you need to use an old laundry basket. The laundry basket will function as a makeshift strainer for the fruits and vegetables. After you have rinsed your produce in the laundry basket, the water will just drain right out the sides.

Use approximately two or three inches of natural, organic material as some mulch in every single flower bed. Not only will you be adding nutrients, but weeds will be less likely to grow and moisture will be retained more easily. Your flower beds should also look beautiful all year long.

When planting seeds, you should bury them three times as deep as their actual size. There are exceptions to this rule though, as some seeds need direct sunlight to grow. Example of these kinds of seeds include the petunia and the ageratum. When in doubt about whether a seed requires direct sun exposure, you can find lots of information online or on the seed packaging itself.

Coffee Grounds

A good thing to know when it comes to your organic garden, and running it, is to, a couple times a day, lightly ruffle the seedlings with cardboard or your hand. Although this method may seem counterproductive, it actually helps the seeds to grow quicker and stronger.

Use coffee grounds on your soil. Coffee grounds have nitrogen that plants will utilize. Nitrogen, along with phosphorous and potassium, is an important nutrient in the garden. It contributes to healthy and strong growth of the plant, but don’t overuse it.

A beer trap can help to eradicate slugs. Bury a single glass jar with the open mouth level with your soil in the garden. Pour enough beer into the jar to fill it below an inch from the top. Slugs will be attracted by the beer and fall into the jar.
